The produce lady who sits by our gate. Her name is Jane. Every time I’ve been here, for the last 4 years, she is there waving at me every time I pass by and says “hello Joyce” with a big smile.
We chat as I buy cabbage or peppers from her. She always throws in a few extra tomatoes or avocado. She works every day selling vegetables. On Sunday she goes to church in the morning and opens her stand later. Otherwise she is there at her stand all day, every day. Always so happy and cheerful!
This last week she invited me to her house. So today we followed her down a path to her house. It was an incredible visit. She served us chai and white bread.
Her house is in a beautiful spot with an incredible view of the valley. It was very small and very clean. She has 5 children. The oldest is in the picture with us in the red. She’s going to nursing school in May. Her other children are all in school too. Her husband works for the hospital and so this is why they can live in the compound.
It was such a wonderful visit. Caren came with me and I was happy since Jane knew less English then I realized, although her daughter speaks perfect English
