Today we were meeting back up with the others and so we were driving north towards Florence again to a tiny town called Vinci. It was only a couple hours drive but it went right through Pisa. Since we are in Italy and never know if we will be coming back to this area again, we thought we better stop and see it.
Pisa is actually a large city. Hard to drive in, but we needed to get down to where the tourist section is with the leaning tower. So as we got closer, we just parked and walked.
You would think it would be tall enough to see, but once we got there we could see, it's not that tall. It's like a church tower, not a huge building tower. I guess I always thought it was like a tall building.
This was the first day that we started seeing things closed up because of the virus. There were very few people there.
The river was beautiful there and the building really old.
So the cathedral and the tower were closed. First day that this part of Tuscany was affected, but all tourist places were now closed. I would have loved to see that cathedral!
There she is! The Leaning tower of Pisa! It beautiful! Robin in her new coat is beautiful too!
This was a vegetarian pizza. It had artichokes, eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms. So yummy with a Naples type crust.
This was so weird, like the built the city around this old church. I do love how Italy doesn't just tear down old buildings, but fix and restore. History is everywhere!
