Every international trip I have gone on has been different then what I expected and this time was no different.
Today was a great day, but of course not how I planned it.
I was going to teach a class at 10 am but as we were leaving the house I found out the tub of medical supplies, that had be held at the airport all this time, was released and we could go get it. So after a nice visit with some medical students at the hospital we took an uber to the airport. Only problem is we went to the wrong airport! 🤪. So it took us a very long time to get to the airport. But once we got there and after a few stops we had our tub of supplies!! Nothing was missing and it was all so worth the plan God had!
It's very hot and sticky here. So we stopped and got a frozen yogurt made with real fruit and rested in air-conditioned room, before heading to a smaller hospital we wanted to visit.
At this hospital we were able to donate some supplies we brought. They were so appreciative!!!
They took us on a tour of there very nice hospital. The labor ward was of course what interested us the most. Many of the laboring women had to share a bed. There were about 4-5 beds in this room with everyone in this room in labor at different points. Once they got close to delivery they are moved to the next room over, with no door or privacy, where they deliver. The baby is pretty swiftly taken to another room where they check out the babies. and the mother stays there on the delivery bed for a bit before they move her to a recovery room where they again share beds with other new moms (and no babies in site,🙁)
It was a long day, but felt so good to visit and bless people.
We finished our day with gathering with the rest of the team for dinner!
