With all this covid stuff going on this year I figured that my traveling days were over for a little while. I got very content just staying home this summer. Hanging out with children and grandchildren, working in my garden, cooking new things, making artisan breads and pizza, taking care of my midwifery clients and cuddling with my new kitty. I’ve been working on household organization projects and we actually got some projects done I’ve dreamed about, like a new porch! My son Jon came over and built this huge porch! It's almost like an addition to the house!
Then the other day I got this letter from Samaritan purse, explaining that the head doctor at the mission Hospital in Kapsowar, Kenya, where I spent 3 weeks last year, has been down with Covid. She’s a super healthy woman in her 30s who one day was doing her cardio exercise and the next day she got hit with Covid and two months later still can hardly walk across the house without her oxygen levels dropping really low. The letter was asking for help in the labor and delivery ward. The doctor that has been doing all the maternity ward is overwhelmed and very tired as she’s been working mostly alone this whole time. What a surprise and honor it is that they reached out to us midwives, asking if we could come back and help. They needed help right away but with the holidays coming and responsibilities I have here, I will not be able to go till January.
Right now I have my midwifery clients due in November, angel tree, a few youth group meals and before you know it, this year will be over.
In less then 2 months I will be heading off to Kenya!!!
