Another great day here and Kapsowar Kenya, I started by saying goodbye to 2 girls that I got pretty close to quick.
These 2 nurses, Kay and Larissa, had ran a clinic in Haiti for a few years. At those clinics where there is no doctor and doctors and hospitals are far away these girls had to take care of everything from delivering babies, suturing to heart attacks, worms and malnourished children. They had no one to turn to except a few books.
We really enjoyed our time together in Kapsowar! it was hard to say goodbye but we plan on staying in touch and possibly planning another trip!
After that I headed over to the theater for a C-section to work with a young nurse that I taught and she needed a bit of review.
The two of us took care of this baby for a little while while we waited for the mom to get out of recovery.
There was another birth being finished up just as we got back into the labor room and then right then there was another mom ready to deliver and so I got to take care of that mom and I was so happy to be able to work with her! She was able to hold her baby for over an hour skin to skin! Victory!!!! I actually stood guard 😳❤️😂 sure that if I walked away someone would think it was time to get her up and weigh the baby or something! But she was able to breastfeed and cuddle for over an hour!
After that birth I came home for lunch and then back to the school at three to teach my class to about 12 students.
Here is that mom and baby the next day going home. She told me how happy she was with her birth.
