Almost every year for the past 12 years I have volunteered for a camp in glacier over by Browning. The kids are mostly from the Blackfoot reservation. I look forward to this time every year!
My job is camp cook! Most of those years I was a cooks helper, and the last few years I was head chef! This year I was called "chef" a few times 😊. It's not a big group, 20-25 total usually! And it's always a group effort with counselors helping out when they get a chance.
One of my counselors that helped in the kitchen this week quite often was a girl that was raised going to this camp every single year! What a wonderful blessing to see someone whose life was blessed with this camp and now she comes back and volunteers every year.
They have fantastic bible lessons every morning and skits to reinforce the lessons. They memorize bible verses and get to earn sweatshirts if they memorize the 5 verses.
One of my “jobs” at camp is cabin cleanup judge. There is a contest of who has the cleanest cabins. I always love this job and to find how creative the kids get to impress the judge! I have to get super picky because they all do such a great job. So I look for dead flys in the window sill or such. But the kids love to surprise me. With pretty music going or a bouquet of flowers. Someone made a broom with a smiley face. And flowered walkways. Bibles open on beds to sweet verses.
We are starting a new tradition of "Build your own pizza night!" We made the sourdough the night before and it was risen high in the morning! It’s a little challenging to organize the ovens, but so fun!
Many Glacier lodge 😊😊😊❤️❤️❤️
One of my favorite places is the Many glacier lodge! Kids go hiking and I ask to be dropped off at the lodge where I hang out and take in all the history and views!
Sleeping on bunkbeds and walk to the bathhouse, long days cooking! But I love every minute of feeding happy kids! Enjoying the disconnected time away from cell phones and internet!
