I had a fantastic flight from Germany to Nairobi because I had a whole 2 seats to myself, so I slept most of the way and since I didn't sleep the night before I left, it was VERY necessary! Sure makes the 7 hour flight go fast!
So I arrived about 9 pm Kenya time and the airport is small and crowded, no social distancing! Everybody has tested negative for covid though, and they ask for that proof many times all throughout travel.
Getting that Covid test was challenging! They want the test within 96 hours of arriving in Kenya. You end up a total of 34 hours or so traveling and it takes 2-4 days to get test results back. I got my result at 4 am Sat morning and left for the airport at 4:30!!! I'm constantly learning to breathe and trust God in these little things! To work so hard to prepare for trip, with paperwork galore, taking care of midwifery things while I'm gone, packing supplies and clothes for a different climate, saying good bye to family etc and then possibly having to change plans in the last half hour, no wonder I didn't sleep Friday night!!!!!! I kept coming back to the wonderful verses the Lord had given me the week before about Him going with me on my travels etc. I knew He was going to work it out!
It took a couple hours to get through the line, getting paperwork checked again, going through customs, again pulling my suitcase apart. 🤪
I met another volunteer for the hospital on the flight from Frankfurt and so we had each other to help with luggage. She's a nurse from Alberta and it will be fun to get to know!
Thank you all for the wonderful support and supplies you helped me to bring. Those suitcases are full of the things you donated to help those mama's and babies! Next time I think I will just pack tubs and forget the suitcases. You can fit so much in and they are easier to lift then the awkward suitcases. Plus I think if I leave them there they will find good use for them.
Samartian purse always has a driver there at the airport for us with a sign with our names. Feels nice and secure to have someone there for us.
We got the guest house about midnight and was so happy to get a shower and off to bed about 1 am Kenyan time.
Moriah snuck a beautiful card in my suitcase so I would find it later! 😊. It had a blessing for me and encouragement well needed while traveling! 😊❤️
My sweet kids all took good care of me and all through my trip I could see their loving kindness to having snacks, vitamins, masks, packing everything just right in each suitcase. I couldn't have done it without them.
