Every week "Show Mercy" is able to go visit in the high school and minister. The other volunteers and I were excited to go. They thought since both Sonya who is a nurse from Ohio and I were medical, that a health type talk would be good.
First we drove through horrible roads! In America we would call these a washed out road, but here it seems to be perfectly normal to drive on what seems a creek bed! No one seems to buckle their seatbelts but I kept an eye on the speedometer and I don’t think it ever went over 20 mph.
When we arrived at the school the kids all gathered around and we did this little dance. just to break the ice and have some fun.
Then we split off into groups separating the boys and the girls. Our subject was going through puberty. Some things that could be embarrassing, but things possibly that they’ve never been taught before since in this culture mothers don’t generally talk to the girls about normal women things. We passed out papers so they could privately ask questions and we were so surprised that every girl had at least one question. We were answering some pretty deep questions for over an hour. If our talk prevents one unplanned pregnancy or shows these girls there is someone they can talk to, it will be worth so much!!
