Leaving Africa

It was so hard t say good bye! The people are wonderful here. They are joyful, loving, patient calm people. We laughed a lot together!

In some ways it seems like my time went fast, but then when I think of all the things we did, it was so many things every day, that I need to take some time to list it all so I don’t forget.

Every morning we had a project or outing of some sort and then every afternoon another one. So even in a short visit here, you can fit a lot in!

It seems like most people come here to Show Mercy for 2 weeks, so they need to fit a lot in!

I was here almost 3 weeks.

It wasn’t at all what I thought I was coming for, but it’s great when God wants to change your thoughts and plans and they are good! I’ll list some of the things we did: we went to the prison, to the high school to teach a class, I helped with 2 feed the children days, we did home postpartum visits which because of interesting roads or transportation took 2 long afternoons, we taught several classes to either moms or continuing Ed classes , helped the local midwives, helping with the outreach clinic was 2 full days. Immunization clinic 3 days. Home visits to kids that needed sponsorship. I was still able to share supplies, that was so needed.

We also met with 2 other midwives that work in different parts of Uganda. One of them is just starting a birth center in another needed area and we were able to share some supplies with her too. The other one works in the slum of kampala. 24 hours a day she cares for the many women that come to her for free. I can’t imagine how she does it!

It just amazes me over and over, how God derailed my plans and put me on a different path. I wasn’t sure at first, but as time went on I could see why He wanted me here. I shared about Hope and her mom Annette in another post. I feel like that relationship will be long term. The kids and the pregnant moms we are sponsoring will make life long differences. I needed to feel that, I needed to see how they these families lived and see how excited and life changing our $39 a month could mean.

Meeting Beth, the midwife that invited me here. She is a networker, and she has so many resources for midwifery missions. I feel like God put me together with a mentor and role model that will be for a continuing relationship. If that was the only reason I came, I could be satisfied, but there was so much more.

As I was leaving today, the Lord spoke to me, through others and In my heart and even though it’s not all real clear about my future, it seems missions is going to be a bigger part. The time here has been life changing in so many ways.
