My journey started!

The first part of my journey started! My mile long to do list "for before trip" didn't get completely done, but since I have someone house sitting, and someone else business sitting, I will just pass my to do list on to them! They are so gracious to pick up my busy life for me so I can be off!

First getting all the medical supplies gathered and figuring out how to ship them was quite the job! After much research we found we could reasonably ship them to Rome where I pick them up again and bring them to Nairobi, and then another flight to Eldoret and then a drive up the mountain where the hospital is located.

Deciding what needed to go in my carry-on and what needed to be shipped ahead was quite the task. Weighing, finding out regulations and re-doing the bags over and over. Trying to make sure nothing gets stopped in customs. For instance we had to take all the new items out of boxes and after getting all the batteries in place in the thermometers and blood pressure cuffs, etc. we found out we can't ship batteries. So out they came again. I'll be picking up batteries, soccer balls, toys, coffee and chocolate in Italy where I can take one more check-in luggage and have room in my carry on for batteries.

So thankfully Monica is very organized and took the lead for me, since I've been a bit frazzled to say the least!
