Next town was Taranto

It's an old, old town. There is actually a new part of town too, but the old side looks very old! It's actually on an island with ocean all around. The water was beautiful. The buildings are in poor condition. You can so easily picture this town in the 1600's.

A big castle like so many of these towns on the ocean. I walked down a street to see the cathedral and from the outside it looked the same as the town, old, dirty and worn-out. What a surprise to walk inside to a beautiful cathedral with a separate chapel inside the big one, and the basement looked like it had ancient artwork.
