Rianne (another volunteer) and I decided to have company over on this slow relaxing day. So before we went to the market we checked the labor ward and there was only one woman in labor and one baby crying in the warmer with no mom in site. I found out she just was being brought down from the "theater" so we got that baby tucked in with it's mom.
I visited a few minutes with the male nurse and student that was there.
I told them I was surprised they weren't shy around all these women things and the one guy said, this is my passion. I love working in the labor ward. Women or men, the nurses work in all the wards.
Then Rianne had a few things to finish up, so I helped her with a lady with very, very bad bed sores, and she took me through the pediatric ward.
Off then to the market we went.
The whole town is not very long with shops on both sides. Then one big produce market. We were able to find garlic there (which isn't common here) cilantro, lots of tomatoes and some tiny hot peppers to make a salsa.
It's easy to find green peppers but not hot ones.
We bought a pineapple for a $1
Dinner would be us volunteers and a couple of charge nurses. We made a haystack type dinner. Rice, beans, meat, avocado, tomato green pepper and I managed to make salsa. The girls bought some chapati and it was a feast.
Our guests brought us some mango juice they made and these amazing little triangle things filled with tiny grain beans. I don't remember what they were called.
