Got to the hospital first thing this morning as they were carrying in twins from the "theater". (Operating room) Twins rates are higher here in Kenya! The little girl has a cleft lip. The little boy was struggling to breathe a bit. Mom was still in recovery, so we had a bit of time to snuggle!
We actually had no one in labor! We kept a close eye on these little sweeties.
We had a whole group of new students, since every so often they rotate all the students. They do rotations through the different wards in the hospital or some of them go back to class again. So I decided to take the opportunity to teach "helping babies breathe" course again. I had about 10 students or so. After we finished our course and practiced a bit, I asked them if they wanted to learn newborn exam too. So I went through it on our dummy babies and then we did real ones on the twins. That was fun!
The students all seemed to appreciate the class. I love this part of the trip and hope to learn more and teach more next time I come back!
