I got to my airbnb after a long drive trusting the map programs, that take you on crazy little roads with big long names. "At the round about take the 1st exit then turn left on "Monocelio suprconsumun poschila......." those are just made up but that's what it sounds like to me. You are on some skinny farm type road and your thinking this can't be right, and I hope another car doesn't come from the other direction. Well somehow I made it here and it's beautiful, relaxing, and easy parking right out in front! The church bells ringing every hour starting at 7 am.
Tuesday I decided to go to Pompeii. It's only 35 miles driving. But driving here is not like Montana! I'm feeling like I'm getting pretty good at being an Italian driver though.
I remember one time I was traveling in Oregon and got pulled over because "I almost crossed over the line, and that is considered reckless driving". So here in Italy, all drivers woruld be considered reckless, because lines and stop signs don't mean much. Passing cars, wow!!! You know how we are taught when passing someone wait to see them in your rearview mirror before pulling back over. Well they start pulling over when they are right next to you! I don't think I've ever seen blinkers used at all!
So a 35 mile drive ends up taking about 1.5 hours.
But Pompeii was amazing! Felt like you could get a glimpse at what it was like to live back then. It was a sophisticated town with it's water sources, the market, etc. They woke up that morning thinking they would have a regular day, when that was actually the end of their homes and some their lives.
