I went off to get my SIM card for my phone to save money. I found a place that sells them and like most people here, no one speaks any English. But somehow I get my point across and they started working on it. He got it all in and done and my phone didn't go back on. So he gets out his google translate and says it will take 2-3 hours for it to work again. I don't know if he saw the fear that flashed across my face. When you are traveling like this, your phone is your lifeline. I don't even know how to get back to the apartment without it. I can't take pictures and I for sure couldn't find my next stop, which was to find Laudadio's butcher shop.
Oh, well this is an adventure, so I headed for the ocean and wandered around another beautiful area. I saw two more churches, which were open and empty. Had a nice time looking around and praying. Eventually I made it back to the gelato shop and tried another kind of gelato sweetened with Stevia!
This church was built 1786. It's beautiful and a little different with the grey and white.
In the evening when everything comes alive here, I decided to go see if I could find the butcher shop I found online, that had "Laudadio" in the name to see if I could find a relative . I wrote down the my grandpa's full name, and the little bit we know about him. His brothers name and niece and nephew, which we would think would still be alive and around here.
So the butcher shop wasn't far and I went in and began to try to communicate. Of course we get out google translate, but finally she says, "come here" and I follow her down about half a block and to another butcher shop. This one is owned by Tony Laudadio! Yay!!! He even speaks some English! I show him my paper and he says he thinks all those relatives moved to Brooklyn NY. He had moved to Brooklyn and learned the meat business he said, but then came back, He thinks we are relatives. That's as far as we got, and I told him I will come back and visit.
My Dad's name was Tony Laudadio too!
