Last year I had planned on going back to Kapsowar. There was a threat at the hospital and they had to pull all the missionaries. This was before the covid stuff started!!! So plans changed and God led me to Uganda, which was amazing! I met wonderful people and found out about sorts of opportunities for future mission trips not only for myself but anyone else that wants to go too. But because plans changed I ended up leaving some of the supplies I gathered.
Now here I am again going back to the original hospital in Kenya. I have lots receiving blankets and sheets I need. Being short on time I didn't have time to share the needs with everyone and I love how much everyone wants to help. But after Christmas I had to get things together fast.
I ordered these newborn pulse ox that is so necessary when your dealing with babies having breathing trouble or born early. These are very inexpensive ones at $168 each, thermometers, supplies for teaching class, adult pulse ox, stethoscopes, the list goes on! I'm still trying to get more blood pressure cuffs, watches with 2nd hands for nurses, and batteries. I have an order in for 3 dopplers and newborn ambu bags. The ones I found are really good and they will send them directly to the hospital at about $350 each. So supplies are expensive, and I'm so excited to bring some things. When you working with a mom and you can't find a blood pressure cuff or you got this tiny baby having trouble breathing and you can't find a stethoscope, it's so hard!
Plus when you have 200 moms a month things get worn out fast and have to be replaced often.
So if anyone wants to help with these needs, it will be greatly appreciated.
The other fund I would like to start is for kids schooling. The surgeons wife has a project working with an orphanage there. She says that the best thing we can do for these kids is to help them get an education. School cost money for all the kids. The elementary age is about $200 a year and high school $600. Getting an education is the difference of these kids being able to get out of poverty. I would love to be able to give Laura a check for these kids! Their childrens home is extremely simple, no running water, the kids wash their own clothes by hand and raise their own food. But still by far, an education is where the most long term help is at!
I hate to talk about money and feel like an advertisement , but I know the blessing is on you as you give and I want to share that blessing with you! I feel privileged that God has allowed me to go first hand and help, but I couldn't do it without all you beautiful people standing behind me. 😊
