Sometimes when traveling I feel like there are some places I need to go more then actually really wanting to go. To check it off my list type thing. Rome and the Amalfi coast were two places and I'm really glad I went, but my favorite is actually the little towns. Mola di Bari with little shops, the random little towns on the coast or that I randomly picked off a map, I enjoyed these immensely, but without the crowds or extra high prices or problems you run into with high tourist areas.
But today was the day for the Amalfi coast! I was told not to drive because the roads are skinny and on the edge of cliffs. So I found public transportation, but it was quite the ordeal to get there. Drive 45 min to the train station, walk a mile to the , find the right platform, train 20 min, hike 30 min to another train station and take a train so crowded there is only standing room...... Anyway, I got to Sorrento and I took the first sightseeing bus. It was one of those open top ones, which I really enjoyed. They took us to the tip of the coast where we could see the island of Capri.
Then I got back and I took another sightseeing bus up to Positano. Incredible views! I especially wanted to go to Positano because I love the TV show "Giada in Italy" and many of the shows are filmed there. She talks about the pasta and the veggie stands. Spent an hour there. The shops were super expensive, but fun to look at.
Got back on the bus and I was worried for the bus driver. What a stressful job! Tiny skinny roads big buses, lots of traffic. Right on the edge of cliffs! He would literally be inches from the edge! Sometimes cars would have to back up, so he could get around a corner.
Spent a bit of time in Amalfi too, although a cute town, it was so touristy and expensive.
So back on another bus, that took me to a little town, where I walked a bit to the train station, a walk again to my car, and back to the airbnb before 9 pm.
It was absolutely beautiful and I'm glad I got to see it!
