It’s hard to believe my time here is going so fast. Seems like I just got here. Next time I come I need to make it longer, because traveling here take a big chunk of time out.
AsI walked into the hospital, I go through the postpartum rooms first. I stopped to check on some beautiful moms. They are such sweet, lovely ladies. They were glad to let me take their picture and of course wanted to see it.
I learned the words for ”are you ok?” And they laugh when I try to say it. They have to unwrap several blankets for me to see their baby.
After my visit in the postpartum ward I went into the labor room and found there was a stillborn baby. My heart broke for that mama. She spoke English so i was able to ask her if she’d like to see and hold her baby. She did and so I cleaned him up a bit and brought him over to her, when she promptly looked to see that he was a boy. She went under her blanket and was able to greive.
I then went and helped fold gauze and learned some Swahili words. They laugh when I try to say them.
After folding LOTS of gauze, I headed back to the class room to teach. Class is supposed to start at 11, but this is Africa and Africa has a different time schedule I guess. So about 11:34 I had most of my students. I don't mind because I just go longer! 😊
We are doing good, learning everything they are supposed to, and should all easily be able to pass the examinations tomorrow. They are not written exams, but I give them scenarios and they have to show me how they will take care of mom and baby!
