After camp is over, I decided to take a day and just be a tourist. We live so close to Glacier Park, but really the only time most of us see it as if we're taking company there or like me volunteering for this camp, and so I've seen parts of it. I've never actually just taken time to be a "tourist", so I determined that I would take my time to stop and to take pictures and to enjoy the incredible views.
I packed up the car and headed to Saint Marys
This is where one of the entrances to Glacier park is, but I wasn't going into the park today. Now a days you have to have a reservation to go in, next year I will plan ahead a little better. They have a small lodge type place at St Mary's though, so got myself a pastries and latte and relaxed in their lounge area.
They had wi-di there and since I hadn't been on line all week I took a bit of time relaxing and catching up.
Then I started the beautiful drive to east Glacier.
I took a detour to see a historic ranger station. It told about a family that lived there in 1918. She had a Moutain lion in her attic!!! Can you imagine living truly out in the boondocks with 2 little children and wild animals in your yard!!! I then continued my drive towards East glacier. It was a skinny road that didn't always have guard rails. The views just got more incredible as I went and I would try to capture the views in pictures, but there's no comparison to seeing it in real life.
When first arriving into East Glacier I saw a bakery sign. So many fresh pastries! I picked a few and decided to eat those in the lodge.
The lodge is of course incredible with the huge old logs that they brought in all the way from Oregon in the early 1900's. I ate dinner in the dining room and then ate my pastries for dessert in one of the tables inside the lodge.
It was a lovely tourist day!!!
