Trip to the city of Orvieto

On Monday I decided to go to the larger town to get 3 items. A SIM card for my phone, a portable battery charger (because I forgot mine in Africa) and Cannoli shells. The town I'm staying in is very tiny. There is one church, one school (as far as I can see) a couple grocery stores, produce and bakeries.

So I figured out the bus that only runs a couple times a day and got on hoping the driver could sell me a ticket because I couldn't find anywhere to buy one. A nice lady on the bus sold me one of hers. 😊

So off I went to the big city of Orvieto!

When you don't know the language, you guess at a lot of things you would normally ask questions about or read signs about. So you end up spending more time and money. But it's all part of the adventure. When I got to the bus/ train stop I tried to ask if this is the city center and I got lots of answers I didn't understand! 😊

I got off the bus and went to ask something in the station only to see this amazing tram. It went up a very very steep hill. You pay $1.30 to get on this tram that brings you up to the city center (from what I could gather). Later I realized I could have stayed on the same bus and it would have brought up there for free. But the tram was an adventure because although the hill was extremely steep, the car stays level. It has some sort of thing that comes out the bottom front.

When I got off the tram, I still didn't see a town, I saw tourist type stuff. It's funny when you have a mind set to be a tourist, it's great, but when your looking for the part of town the locals shop at, it's not as fun. I looked around a little and then saw a bus going to the Dumno: The church building.

So I thought I'll head there. Built in 1290! The outside was incredible. They wanted to charge to go in, and I'm kind of weird about that. It's ok, but I wasn't in the mood today to be a tourist.

The shops were beautiful. But they were all nicknacks.

So I hopped again on a bus (all still on my same ticket) after I had a cappuccino and got a tour of the country side while sitting on the bus.

Went back down the hill, found my cannoli shells and some amazing treats to eat.

Checked the bus schedule to find out the bus goes back to Castel Giorgio at 5:40 pm. So I waited and ate another snack. Bought my bus tickets. As I'm waiting I met a girl that spoke English. She was from Ukraine and when she was 6 they moved to Italy. So of course she knows at least 3 languages. She went to talk to the bus driver for me and found out that the bus that goes back to Castel Giorgio doesn't run today.😳☹️ It wasn't posted anywhere!

I called my sweet airbnb host and explained to her the problem. She was so sweet to come pick me up and take me back and wouldn't even take the gas money.

My adventure to the city!

The rest of my week I decided to stay in Castel Giorgio and relax before my friends get here. Because I think once they are here, it will be a whirlwind of tourism!!! 🤪
