I decided I was just going to walk the length of Mola today. I also decided I'm going to try to not buy anything, but just enjoy the walk and looking, because I keep buying more food then one person can eat. Haha, well that didn't work!
Chibotta rolls, Milan Hard Salami, pesto cheese, fresh basil, some kind of parmesan that was on sale. I also finally found some Almond milk without sugar in it. The pesto cheese is an experience in itself! It's a strong cheese, but creamy and a bit softer. Oh boy it's so good!
I did walk almost the entire edge of Mola and it was only 2.5 miles. It's not a big town at all, but from what I read there is 25,000 people here.
In Africa everyone says hello and shakes your hand with a huge smile. Here, although everyone is friendly and you feel welcome, so many people are walking and out and about, people don't usually say anything to you. I'm thinking I fit in as far as looks and until I speak people probably don't know that I'm American.
I started looking at Apartments that are for sale. There are a lot of them, but I have no idea the prices. I walked all the way to the edge of town and noticed a diffenrt type of apartment down there. Maybe newer then the part I'm in, but still old, like maybe built in 40's? and reminded me more of American city apartments. Downtown where I'm at reminds me more of 100 yr old, quaint type apartments.
I went into several stores and didn't buy anything! :) One was a pasta store, where everything was freshly made. Ravioli and tortellini was $11 a Kg. I am going back there for sure!!
I went into a health food store, first one I've seen here. The owner spoke English and it was fun to have a real conversation with someone.
She said she doesn't know of any midwives in Italy. Her friend who wanted to become a midwife had to move to the UK. I asked her if anyone lives in single family dwellings or does everyone live in apartments. She said in Mola, everyone lives in apartments, but she lives outside of town in a small village called and she has a home, with a yard, garden and 2 hens.
We talked about schooling and she said in Mola kids are in school till about 1-2 pm each day and then they go home for lunch and stay home. She said sometimes later in the day there might be special classes kids can choose to take, like art etc. But basically school is from 8-1 each day.
It's a typical seen at 1 to see a parent walking hand in hand with their child going home from school. It looks like parents all walk their children home from school.
